2 suicide cases recorded in Tabuk City in a week


Tabuk City, Kalinga – The numbers are definitely not bluffing, self-harm is real and happening.

 

According to the World Health Organization, over 700,000 individuals die by suicide every year. This means that one person took his life every 40 seconds.

 

In 2020, suicide became the 27th leading cause of death in the country after the Philippine Statistics Authority documented 3,529 incidents. The data was said to be the highest in 14 years.

 

Self-harm is not only happening in other provinces and cities, but also in Tabuk City. In fact, two cases of suicide were recorded by the Tabuk City police for the first two weeks of April.

 

Data obtained by GURU Press Cordillera showed that the two incidents happened on April 8 and 9, 2024, and both adult victims were found hanging at home. The two were rushed to the hospital but was declared dead due to Asphyxia secondary to cardio pulmonary arrest.

 

The attending physician confirmed deep pressure marking on the neck of both victims.

 

Last month, another suicide case was documented. The victim was a middle-aged man in the city who allegedly shot himself.
