Sumaal says hydropower projects needed to counter high-power rates in Tabuk City

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Samuel “Ditten” Sumaal, a re-electionist for Tabuk City Councilor, said he is committed to support all hydropower projects in the city once elected to counter high electric bills being charged by the Kalinga Electric Cooperative (KAELCO).

Tabuk City is one of the places in the Philippines with high cost of electricity per kilowatt/hr.

The statement is in response to the question sent by a certain netizen during the Voter’s Education and Media Forum on April 08, 2022, asking what measure will be done by candidates to help the community regarding issues of electric bills.

Sumaal underscored that the main problem with electric rates is the long distance between the city and the source of electricity and that the source is not a renewable energy.

“Ti problema tayo ti KAELCO ket daytoy kinaadayu ti paggapwan iti kuryente tayo nga mapan ditoy Tabuk wennu ditoy Kalinga. From Pangasinan to Tabuk ket nagadayu karkaru daytoy environment ket daytoy paggapwan ti kuryente tayo ket han nga renewable energy daytoy,” he said.

Sumaal then explained why supporting hydropower projects will be of great help.

“Dagituy ket renewable energy dagituy. Ket nu umasideg iti kuryente wennu dagituy kwa tayo ditoy ayan tayo…awanen diay baybayadan tayo nga nagatiddug nga listaan idiay KAELCO. Nu kitaen yu diay listaan ket nagadu dagiay transmission cost, dagiay loss current kunkunana idiay, dagiay maikkat da nu adda tuy mismo nga lugar tayo nga Kalinga wennu ditoy Tabuk ti paggapwan iti produkto tayo,” stressed the city council candidate.

Additionally, he said, he will be open to inviting investors to the city to solve the common problem of electricity.
