Tinglayan awards over P.4M worth of project to winners of solid waste management contest

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The Local Government of Tinglayan, having decided to resume its contested activities promoting ecological solid waste management in the municipality, shall give prizes amounting to P460,000 in the form of projects to its winners.

The contested activities include the Search for Healthy Barangay, Healthy Household, and Green Hand Innovation. All were cancelled last year due to the emergence of the pandemic.

Said contested activities, Municipal Information Officer Larae Lactao related, started in 2018 as an incentive-based health program with its goal to enhance the overall health of the Ytinglayans and to strengthen, capacitate, and recognize Barangay LGUs in their health governance and health service delivery system.

As decided in a meeting held on Tuesday, October 12, the total amount allocated for the search is P460,000; P300,000 for the Search for Healthy Barangay, P100, 000 for the Search for Healthy Household and P60,000 for the Search for Green Hand Innovation.

Evaluation will also be done. The committee planned to hold 2 rounds of assessment; the 1st round is to happen in November in which 60% of the overall score will be drawn from it while the second round to be conducted during the 1st and 2nd week of December is where the 40% of the score will be derived.

As scheduled, the first round of evaluation will start at Sumadel I & II on November 4, Belong and Mallango on November 5, Bangad tribe on November 9, Tulgao East, Tulgao West and Ngibat on November 10 while Butbut Proper and Loccong will be on November 11.

As for other barangays, Buscalan and Bugnay will be on November 12, Basao on November 16, Luplupa & Old Tinglayan on November 17, Poblacion and Ambato on November 18 and to conclude in Barangay Dananao on November 19.

A screening committee from the offices in the Local government Unit and some from national-line agencies based in the municipality will be choosing the winners.

“The search is our means to strengthen our Pumer-asan program to make sure that our programs on health and sanitation are being implemented in the barangay. We believe the search will be a motivation for our people in the barangay to perform well in health and sanitation,” Mayor Sacrament Gumilab said in a statement.

Mayor Gumilab is then encouraging all barangay officials, BLGUs and individuals to participate in the contested activities, which he said would not only benefit them as winners but also the community as a whole.

“Winning this search would bring honor to people in the winning barangay and also be included as our entry for the search for provincial healthy barangay. It will also be a good sign that your barangay really is developing in terms of health and sanitation,” Gumilab stated.

He is then asking the yTongrayans to cooperate and dedicate their time to this search as this will not only give them projects but would also give them a lot of benefits, particularly on their health.

“The most important one is sickness and diseases will be prevented with these efforts,” he underscored.

Winners of the said search shall be awarded on December during the LGU Christmas Party.
