17-yr.-old student buried in landslide amid heavy rains in Tabuk City

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 17-year-old grade 11 student died after he was buried in a landslide that happened in Bulanao on Wednesday afternoon, September 3, 2025.

 

It was past 3:00 p.m. when a heavy downpour drenched Tabuk City, and rescue teams across the province, according to Kalinga PIO, were deployed to respond to areas submerged in flood and those that experienced landslides.

 

While there was no casualty in the flooding, one died due to a landslide in Brookside, Bulanao.

According to the mother of the victim, they just finished eating when the 17-year-old went to his room. Moments later, soil eroded due to the heavy rains and buried a portion of the house. The mother and the victim’s younger sibling were able to escape while the 17-year-old was left inside.

 

Information obtained by GURU Press Cordillera from the Bureau of Fire Protection Tabuk City revealed that they, along with other rescue teams like the Kalinga PDRRMO, Tabuk CDRRMO, PNP, and the barangay, were alerted of the incident around 5:45 p.m. and that they were able to retrieve the body at around 8:07 p.m.

 

Unfortunately, the 17-year-old, who was a native of Lubo, Tanudan, passed away in the incident.

 

Barangay Bulanao, meantime, thanked the rescue teams for their prompt response and expressed its sympathies to the bereaved family.
