La Trinidad, Benguet – Two men who were part of a team dispatched to clear eroded soil in La Trinidad, Benguet amid the Habagat died after the loader ferrying them fell off a cliff on Tuesday afternoon in Lower Kesbeng, Poblacion.

The casualties were identified by the authorities as Redentor Roldan and Rex Gayang of the Benguet Provincial Engineering Office.

Initial report of the police revealed that the two were part of the group sent for a clearing operation in Bineng, La Trinidad, following soil erosion caused by heavy rains. While they were at the descending part of the road in Lower Kesbeng, the driver of the loader ferrying the team lost control of the vehicle due to alleged brake failure.

This caused the loader to go straight down the 100-meter ravine at the side of the road.

The two employees did not make it out alive from the incident, while two of their colleagues were injured and are currently being treated at a hospital.
