Balbalan, Kalinga – Balbalan’s indigenous music, dances, local products, and talents once again took center stage during the 18th Manchachatong Festival, giving visitors and spectators a glimpse of the town’s vibrant and enduring cultural heritage that transcends generations.

Led by Mayor Almar Malannag and Vice Mayor Regina Munda Cruz, the iBalbalans gathered from March 23 to 25 to celebrate the festival through an array of activities prepared by the Municipal Local Government Unit.

One of the highlights of the three-day celebration was the showcase of preserved indigenous chants, instruments, dances, and practices during the Street Dance Competition on March 24. The event not only highlighted the musical talents of the people but also demonstrated the iBalbalan’s deep appreciation for their culture, with all 14 barangays represented by participants from various generations, including Gen Z and Generation Alpha.

Moreover, local products from the 14 barangays—such as “gayunan,” vegetables, corn, coffee, soft brooms, handmade rattan fans, pineapple, and sugarcane, among others—were featured in both the Street Dance performances and the agricultural trade fair.

Other events included dance competitions held on March 24, where elementary and secondary schools, as well as senior citizens, competed in dancesport, Bayle sa Kalye, and folk dance. On the same day, Jaren May D. Agyao of Pantikian was crowned Miss Balbalan 2026.

This year’s Manchachatong Festival concluded with a parade of schools, ground demonstrations by the youth, drum and lyre performances, and the recognition of athletes who brought home medals from the 2026 CARAA Meet in La Trinidad, Benguet.

The 18th Manchachatong Festival carried the theme: “Rooted in Heritage, Growing Towards Sustainable Progress.”
