COMELEC special board canvasses 2025 votes, annuls incumbent councilors’ proclamation

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — After waiting for more than a year, Atty. Errol Comafay Jr. has finally been officially proclaimed as the No. 1 elected councilor of Tabuk City, bringing him closer to fulfilling his pledge of honest and transparent public service to the people of the city.

Comafay was proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Friday, August 14, at the COMELEC Session Hall of Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros, Manila.

The proclamation came after the Special City Board of Canvassers for the City of Tabuk convened to canvass the votes cast in 106 clustered precincts for the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tabuk during the May 12, 2025 elections.

The Special Board also annulled the previous proclamation of the incumbent city councilors, corrected the official election results, and proclaimed Comafay as the elected councilor who garnered the highest number of votes, with 43,321 votes.

He was followed in the corrected results by Lucretina Sarol, Marc Ranier Duguiang, Ivan Yannic Bagayao, Zorayda Mia Wacnang, Juan Thomas Duyan, Eduardo Sacayle, Samuel Suma-al, Abraham Licaycay, and Jayferson Bon-as.

With his proclamation now official, Comafay is set to take his oath of office on Monday, August 17, at the Provincial Capitol in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

“This is a victory for all i-Tabuk who are wishing to end corruption in government. We will try our best to make the city government of Tabuk more transparent,” Comafay said in a statement sent to GURU Press Cordillera.

IBP-Kalinga congratulates Comafay

Following his proclamation, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) – Kalinga Chapter also congratulated Comafay on what it described as a “well-deserved” and “remarkable” milestone.

“A dedicated member of the IBP Kalinga Chapter, Atty. Comafay has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the legal profession, public service, and the pursuit of justice,” the group said.

“As he begins this new chapter in public service, may he continue to serve with integrity, compassion, and excellence, upholding the values of the legal profession and working for the welfare of the people of Tabuk City,” the IBP-Kalinga added.

Comafay’s proclamation formally settles the results of the 2025 city council race after months of waiting and places him in a position to finally assume the council seat he won through the electorate’s votes.
