Baguio City , Philippines - Alleged depression caused a 70-year-old man in Baguio City to end his life recently.
The old man was said to be a native of Tanudan, Kalinga, who resided in Dontogan, Baguio City. His name was not disclosed for privacy.
Report from Bombo Radyo-Baguio on July 18 narrated that it was the 18-year-old grandson who discovered the lifeless body of his grandfather hanging in front of their room.
Upon discovery, the young man quickly untied the rope and put the old man down to save his life. Unfortunately, it was too late to do so, as he already had no pulse.
The 18-year-old then immediately reported the matter to the authorities.
In response, police proceeded to the place of the incident to conduct an investigation. There, they found a letter of the victim addressed to his children. However, it was not mentioned in the report by said media what the letter was all about.
As for the cause of death, the investigation found that the victim had been suffering from depression since around 2010. With that, he was later confined to a rehabilitation facility for several months and was discharged after a short stay.
Health authorities advised him to continue medication and medical checkups every three months.
With the findings, it was initially concluded that depression might be the cause of the suicide.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the real cause of the incident.
