Abra, Philippines─The Youth for YOUth Organization in collaboration with Philippine Dental Association-Abra Chapter brings first online peer-education on HIV and SOGIESC Awareness for youth thru ‘Project Bullalayaw’ this November 22 and 26.

Youth Leader Alexander Bernal expressed that said project is designed to open the minds of the youth that all humans have their own specific SOGIESC not just for LGBTIQ.

“From the name of the project po Bullalayaw it is an Ilocano term for Rainbow. Then alam naman po natin na ang rainbow also represents hope in life. Hence, the main goal of the project is to set awareness to our youth about HIV/AIDS and STI to our young key population,” he said.

Project Bullalayaw Webinar aims to equip basic information about HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) and to discuss the context of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, gender Expression and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC).

It is to eliminate misconceptions and misinformation about HIV and SOGIESC that cause stigma, discrimination, hate, and violence among PLHIV, LGBTIQ, women, and young people.

Thus, the youth are anticipated to embody the learning that they gained and partake to the advocacy and shall be part to create safe-spaces among their peers and community.

Said Webinar is limited for 1 representative for every Municipality of Abra and 1 youth organization representative only.

Accepted participants will receive ₱100.00 per session and an E-certificate after the two sessions which include Session 1, Breaking Stigma, Creating Safe-Space: HIV/AIDS Awareness and Session 2, Prismatic Love: Understanding SOGIESC.

The project is also supported by ASEAN SOGIE Caucus, a network of human rights activists from Southeast Asia and in partnership with Y-PEER Pilipinas, working towards mainstreaming Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of the Filipino Youth through Peer Education approach.
