Tabuk City, Kalinga – The man who hacked his wife to death on Christmas Day in Kalinga has surrendered to the authorities, Kalinga Police Director, PCol. Gilbert Fati-ig confirmed.

The suspect, whose name was withheld, allegedly attacked his wife in Barangay Agbannawag on the evening of December 25 during an argument that escalated, resulting in the victim’s death. The incident was reportedly witnessed by their child.

Following the incident, the husband became the subject of a manhunt operation by the police, with several officials, including Tabuk City Councilor Jayferson Bon-as, calling on him to surrender.

In a statement released on January 7, Fati-ig announced the surrender of the suspect who was referred to the Fiscal’s Office. Information revealed that the man turned himself in to the authorities on January 3, nine days since the hacking incident.

Fati-ig attributed his surrender through the close coordination with the Kalinga Provincial Government headed by Governor James Edduba and the Pangol tribe headed by Simeon Bentican with the assistance of PSMS Darwin Gacayon and the elders of the tribe.

“The suspect was referred to the Fiscal’s Office to ensure that justice is properly served to the victim. This affirms that the Kalinga Police Provincial Office upholds and respects the Bodong System while remaining firm in its mandate to enforce the law. The Kalinga PPO said they do not harbor individuals involved in criminal acts nor tolerate any form of wrongdoing. Our goal is a peaceful, orderly, and progressive Kalinga,” Fati-ig expressed.
