Hotspring Hanging Bridge in Baggao stays closed after wooden and steel parts go missing

BAGGAO, Cagayan — The Hotspring Hanging Bridge in Sitio Hotspring, Barangay Asinga-Via remains closed after several wooden and steel portions of its walkway were reportedly removed or went missing by unidentified individuals, leaving the structure unusable and prompting the local government to seek funds for its repair.

The Sangguniang Bayan (SB)-Baggao reported the condition of the bridge in a post published on August 13, 2026, saying the missing portions had forced the closure of the structure and prevented its continued use.

Mayor Leonardo Pattung expressed disappointment over the incident during the LGU’s Serbisyo Caravan and appealed to residents to help protect and preserve government-funded infrastructure in their communities.

Pattung emphasized that government projects are funded through public resources and are intended to benefit the communities where they are implemented.

Bridge closure affects residents, farmers

Barangay officials had earlier brought the condition of the bridge to the mayor’s office and requested funding for its rehabilitation.

The bridge serves as an important passage for residents in the area, including farmers who rely on it to transport agricultural products from the other side of the river.

With the bridge remaining closed, barangay officials are seeking assistance to restore the damaged portions and allow residents to safely use the passage again.

Access to Baggao’s Hotspring

The Hotspring Hanging Bridge is located in Sitio Hotspring, Barangay Asinga-Via, where Baggao’s Hotspring is also situated.

According to the Municipality of Baggao’s tourism information, the Hotspring in Asinga-Via is among the municipality’s natural attractions. The area features hot to warm waters emerging from the foothills of the Sierra Madre and flowing in cascades among large rock formations.

The hanging bridge provides access along the route leading to the Hotspring, allowing residents and visitors to cross portions of the river and reach the attraction.

Its continued closure therefore affects not only residents who depend on the route but also visitors seeking access to one of Baggao’s promoted natural attractions.

The Hotspring Hanging Bridge was inaugurated on October 19, 2024, according to information published by the SB-Baggao.

Built through KALAHI-CIDSS

The bridge was implemented through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) KALAHI-CIDSS program, with counterpart funding from the Barangay Asinga-Via and the Municipality of Baggao, according to the SB-Baggao report.

The counterpart funding was approved by the Sangguniang Bayan after the agency’s available funds were found insufficient to fully cover the project.

Now, barangay officials are again seeking funding to repair and restore the damaged portions of the bridge so it can return to service.

The LGU continues to appeal to residents to help safeguard government-funded infrastructure, stressing that these projects are built using public funds for the benefit of the community.
