TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Barangay Bulanao Norte emerged as champion of the 2026 Tabuk City Inter-Barangay Basketball League, taking home ₱50,000 in cash and a trophy at the culmination of the three-month tournament on October 24 at the Kalinga Sports Center.

Bulanao Centro placed second and received ₱30,000 and a trophy, while Dagupan Centro finished third, earning ₱20,000 and a trophy. The three teams shared the ₱100,000 total cash prizes awarded during the culminating ceremony.

The tournament was initiated by Rang-Ay Eco-Adventure & Resort, owned by NBI Director III Atty. Gelacio Bongngat, in partnership with the Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go. It brought together teams from Tabuk City’s 43 barangays, which competed every weekend from July 28 until October.

Bongngat underscored the importance of sports activities in the city, saying Tabuk has many talented athletes who need more support and opportunities to develop their skills.

“Ado nalalaing nga athletes tayo. Kurang lang ti support, let us support them,” Bongngat said, stressing that supporting local athletes demonstrates the community’s concern for their development and talents.

He explained that this was why they approached Senator Go to help fund the basketball tournament and provide young athletes with an avenue to showcase their abilities.

Bongngat also vowed to continue supporting the youth of Tabuk City, emphasizing that his commitment would extend beyond sports to other areas that contribute to their development and well-being.

With the successful conclusion of the tournament, Bongngat said organizers are planning another sports competition next year, using lessons from this year’s event to further improve its implementation.

Meanwhile, Kalinga Governor James S. Edduba, represented by Albert Gayyaman, reaffirmed the provincial government’s support for sports development through partnerships with local government units and sports organizations.

Edduba said providing young people with opportunities to participate in sports promotes physical fitness, well-being, discipline, and positive engagement in their communities.

The league aimed to strengthen grassroots sports development while encouraging young people to hone their skills and foster camaraderie among Tabuk City’s barangays.
