Agta man from Flora, Apayao finishes college, believes ‘everyone should have equal opportunities’

Updated: Aug 5, 2023

Flora, Apayao – Argie Aguanta Ganaden, a 21-year-old Agta tribe member in Balasi, Flora, Apayao, did not let his social status hinder his dream of becoming a teacher.

Ganaden recently finished college with a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree at Apayao State College (ASC).

With the help of his foster parents, Van Hallen Sanchez, a Baptist pastor in Poblacion West, Flora, Ganaden was able to finish his basic education in 2019 through the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

Growing up in a religious environment, Ganaden said that holistic training made him perceive hopelessness and the barriers hindering progress in his community, stating that everyone should have 'equal opportunities and government support'.

This leads him to pursue his dreams and to set an example to his fellow Agtas that they should also uplift their lives despite being raised in an underrepresented community.

"When I was young, I didn't have a clear vision of my future. However, as I grew up and received holistic training, I began to witness the pressing needs in our community. Driven by a passion to assist my fellow community members, I chose to pursue a degree in Education." answered Ganaden, why he chooses teaching to be his future career.

Finishing college, Ganaden did not forget all those who were behind his success, which, for him, were the ‘constant source of strength and inspiration throughout his journey’.

Apayao State College, meantime, is honored to have shared in Ganaden's academic journey, noting that APC is an institution dedicated to nurturing future educators.
