Banagao, Tanudan – Tanudan Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag called for a wider assessment of coffee producers in remote areas of the municipality to ensure that the town’s actual coffee production is properly reflected in national records, emphasizing that stronger production data could help attract greater support and recognition for Tanudan’s coffee industry.

The mayor made the statement during the Kapehan Meeting of the Municipal Local Government Unit of Tanudan on May 11 at the municipal grounds in Banagao, Poblacion, during discussions on the proposed Schedule of Market Values (SMV) for agricultural and commercial lands in the town.

Dagadag said the municipality’s Kape Festival and possible national support depend on Tanudan’s reported coffee production, stressing the need to assess all coffee-producing areas. He raised the concern before Municipal Assessor Jo Ann Operio.

“As for the coffee, ammo tayo met nga ti festival nga isel-celebrate tayo ket kape. So dagitan tu ti maysa nga pagbasaran da nu adda tu ti pondo nga magapo ti national. Ket nu makita da nga nababa ti production tayo ti kape ket baka ag-conclude da nga haan met gayam nga coffee ti product tayo ditoy ili tayo. So I would like to know nu amin ba ket na-assess yo ti production da? In Barangay Taloctoc? Ditoy Dumanay, nadamag yo ba production da—ado met ti kape dagitoy nga areas, haan lang nga idiay Lubo,” he said.

The chief executive added that coffee producers from remote areas, including those with unharvested coffee plants, should also be included in assessments to better reflect Tanudan’s actual coffee production in national reports.

“Mainayon kuma nga ma-assess dagitoy coffee producers from even more far-flung areas, ken dagitoy pay adda coffee na ngem haan da ap-apiten—adu ti mabaybay-an nga kape actually. Agtitinnulong tayo tapnu dakdakkel latta ti makita nga production nu mapan tu ti national. Dagita ti maysa nga kitan da—in connection to our Kape Festival ket siyempre kape ti main focus ti umay or damagen dagiti bisita, even national agencies like the DA,” he added.

Coffee from Tanudan is widely recognized in Kalinga and the Cordillera region as one of the municipality’s main agricultural products and sources of livelihood. The town celebrates its coffee industry through the annual Kape Festival, with the Department of Agriculture identifying Tanudan as one of the top coffee-producing areas in Kalinga.

Tanudan coffee has also gained recognition for its quality, with local farms earning awards in national coffee competitions.
