Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga Board Member Julius Amla expressed deep gratitude to the Department of Agriculture (DA) for extending much-needed assistance to his constituents, particularly farmers and fisherfolk in the province, on February 13, 2026.

On the said date, various forms of aid were turned over to several farmers’ and fisherfolk groups in Kalinga to help boost their production and income, ease their burden, and reduce post-harvest losses.

With a total cost of P96 million, the assistance provided to beneficiaries included Solar-Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS), irrigation canal projects, corn warehouses, multi-crop drying pavements, drying systems, a diversion dam, forage choppers, egg incubators, HDPE pallets, a hauling truck, and other agricultural equipment.

The awarding ceremony was led by DA Undersecretary Engr. Roger Navarro, who visited the province as part of the celebration of Kalinga’s Founding Anniversary and 7th Bodong Festival.

Also present were Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources–Cordillera Regional Director Lois June Fermin, PhilMech Deputy Director Joel Dator, DA Regional Director Atty. Jennilyn Dawayan, Regional Technical Director Danilo Daguio, Governor James Edduba, Congresswoman Caroline Agyao, and Amla, among others.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Board Member Amla, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Agriculture, conveyed his profound appreciation to the agency for providing essential resources to local producers.

The provincial legislator said that strengthening Kalinga’s agriculture and fisheries sectors remains a top priority of the committee he leads, stressing that continued government support plays a vital role in empowering communities and boosting the local economy.

“Agyaman tayo launay kadagitoy nga tulong nga naggapu iti DA para kadagitoy farmers and fisherfolk tayo. As the Chairman of the SP Committee on Agriculture, I’m very grateful to the agency. To Usec. In an interview, Amla said this will greatly help farmers and fisherfolk in the province, adding that it will also help beef up food security in the province.

“Dakkel maitulong na daytoy kadagiti farmers and fisherfolk tayo. The aid will also help address food security problems. Ket sapay koma ta mausar dagitoy nga nasayaat… tapno add napintas nga resulta na,” said the provincial legislator.

Meanwhile, in an earlier message, Usec. Navarro noted that Kalinga contributes 70%–80% of the total agricultural production of the Cordillera region. With this, he commended the province’s farmers and fisherfolk for their dedication and resilience.
