Army gives aid to family of slain NPA in Flora, Apayao


Flora, Apayao – The government troops extended aid to the grieving family of slain member of the New People’s Army in Flora, Apayao last Friday, Oct. 20.


The suspected rebel was identified by the army as Roger ‘Bernard’ Antonio.


He died after a gunfight between the personnel of 17th Infantry Battalion and at least 9 members of the Komiteng Probinsya (KOMPROB) Cagayan, Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley (KRCV) on said date.

His cadaver was turned over to his family who received assistance from the 502nd Infantry Brigade, according to the 17th Infantry Battalion on Oct. 26.


The 17th IB further reported that 502nd Infantry Brigade Commander, BGen. Eugene Mata together with LtCol. Oliver Logan, Commanding Officer of 17IB personally visited Bernard’s wake to extend their sympathy to his kin.


BGen. Mata advises the kids of Bernard to continue their studies saying, “ipagpatuloy ninyo ang inyong pag-aaral upang makapagtapos at magkaroon kayo ng magandang kinabukasan.”


It could be recalled that the remains of Bernard’s daughter, Brenda ‘Michelle’ Antonio were recovered by the government troops on Sept. 12, 2023. Michelle was given a decent burial.
