Baguio’s Swan Boat used in Cagayan flood honored

Baguio City, Philippines – Burnham Park’s iconic swan boat which was used to rescue people from the flood in Cagayan last year received a badge of honor, the Baguio City Public Information Office reports.

The City Police Office led by PCol. Allen Rae Co bestowed the badge to add attraction and novelty to the boat apart from being a symbol of generosity and selflessness.

It could be recalled that in November 2020, during the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses, Cagayan was hit by a massive flooding, considered as the worst to strike the province in over four decades.

Said calamity made families retreat to their roofs to take refuge and wait for rescue.

Having seen their dilemma on the news, Vivian Celso, owner of said boat despite her business being affected by the Covid-19 crisis lent one swan and three pontoon boats which were ferried to Cagayan, specifically to barangays Anquiray and Abollo to assist in the rescue operation.

Additionally, the boat served as recreation for the children who were traumatized by the massive flood.

After the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on December 10, reports that around 101 individuals were killed in 6 regions namely Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Bicol, CAR, and NCR.
