Balbalan, Kalinga invites public to witness “PADALANG” – lighting of Christmas village – on December 1

Balbalan, Kalinga – The Balbalan Municipal Compound in Poblacion is set to shine with dazzling lights and festive cheer on December 1, 2025, as the municipality holds its Padalang or Christmas Lighting Ceremony.

“Padalang” is a local Kalinga term which means to light up and in Balbalan, it is used to refer to the ceremonial lighting of Christmas decorations or a Christmas village which has become a community tradition that marks the start of the holiday festivities.

Spearheaded by Mayor Almar Malannag, the Municipal Local Government Unit has adorned the municipal grounds with bedazzling lights and ornaments, preparing the area to be transformed into a white Christmas village complete with artificial snowflakes during the event on Monday, creating a more enchanting experience for attendees.

Several activities are lined up for the ceremony, including the grand pailaw ceremony, a lantern parade, Christmas carols and special performances, and a fireworks display.

With everything set, Mayor Malannag invites the public to witness the lighting ceremony, encouraging everyone to bring their families and loved ones and immerse themselves in the festive spirit.

“Maawis iti amin nga agatendar ditoy Padalang Ceremony tayo nu December 1, haan lang nga taga-Balbalan nu di ket amin nga ili ket welcome nga umay. Adda dagiti activities nga insagana tayo para pag-enjoyan iti kakailyan ken bisita, isu nga maawis tayo amin,” he said.

The 2025 Padalang marks the fourth Christmas lighting ceremony to be held in the municipality.
