Tabuk City, Kalinga – The public is being warned to stay vigilant against scammers soliciting donations allegedly on behalf of the family of the late Irene Gayamos, as the Kalinga police clarified that the family is not asking for any form of financial aid.

The reminder was issued by the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) through their official social media account, stating that unscrupulous individuals and groups are exploiting the death of the iLubuagan weaver to deceive people into giving them money.

“The public is hereby informed that certain individuals or groups are falsely using the situation of the late Mrs. Irene Campilis Gayamos to solicit money. These persons are claiming to collect financial assistance on behalf of the family,” the KPPO wrote, stressing that any monetary request being made is a scam.

According to the police, the family is only asking the public to provide information that may help identify the individuals using Irene’s case to deceive others.

Meanwhile, the reward for anyone who can provide information about Irene’s attacker has risen to P700,000, after the Municipal Government of Lubuagan pledged an additional P200,000 on top of the P500,000 reward from the provincial government.

The Lubuagan Municipal Peace and Order Council approved the additional reward during their meeting on November 20. Mayor Joel B. Tagaotao emphasized that it is the duty of officials to protect their constituents.

“A kas ama ti umili, we are duty-bound to protect our constituents. Isu nga haan tayo kuma itulok nga kasta’y maaramid kasla keni Irene, nga maikkan met hustisya ti brutal a patay na. Isu nga inayunan tayo ti 200k jay reward nga inted ti province nga 500k, para kadagiti informant nu sino ti nangpatay ken Irene Gayamos,” he said.
