Tabuk City, Kalinga – A wake in Bulanao Norte is now being held for Kalinga’s slain hero Captain Dean Oyando after his remains arrived in Tabuk City on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Oyando, 25, a newly graduated Scout Ranger from Kalinga, was killed in a 20-minute armed clash with members of the New People’s Army. He was bravely leading troops of the 68th Infantry Battalion during a pursuit operation when they encountered rebels on March 29 in Monteclaro, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.

After being accorded honors by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, with Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. personally attending the vigil at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, the fallen hero was flown home to Tabuk City. He was then given arrival honors by the 503rd Infantry Brigade on Wednesday.

Family and friends, including the 25-year-old hero’s mother, who was holding his portrait, received his remains at the 503rd Infantry Brigade headquarters in Calanan.

Paying his respects to the iKalinga son, Governor James S. Edduba joined Oyando’s kin in Calanan.

“We pay our respects and give honor to his dedication and commitment in serving the country even at the cost of his life. Your heroism will always be remembered. Salute to our fallen hero. May God be with the family in this time of mourning,” the governor said on his Facebook page.

Oyando’s remains are now at his residence in Purok Datu, Bulanao Norte.
