Baguio City, Philippines – For Cordilleran mixed martial artist Carlo “The Bull” Bumina-ang, his thunderous knockout victory over his Brazilian opponent at ONE Fight Night 39 was earned not only through persistent training and the support of his team, family, and fans, but also through guidance from the Almighty.

Competing under Team Lakay, the Baguio City native faced undefeated Marcos Aurelio of Brazil in their bantamweight ONE Championship MMA clash at Bangkok’s historic Lumpinee Stadium on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

In the opening round, both fighters cautiously measured distance, exchanging probing jabs and low kicks while testing each other’s reactions in the early minutes.

Bumina-ang later landed a solid body kick that rattled Aurelio, who focused on defending his midsection against the powerful strikes thrown by the Igorot fighter late in the round. The Brazilian managed to escape a takedown attempt to survive the frame.

Bumina-ang’s patience pays off in Round 2

Entering the second round with renewed confidence, Aurelio opted to trade strikes with Bumina-ang. However, Bumina-ang seized the opportunity, unleashing a left-hand punch that rocketed into Aurelio’s jaw and sent him crashing to the canvas.

Aurelio attempted to recover, but Bumina-ang pressed the attack, finishing the clash with a blistering left-right combination that dropped his rival once more. Referee Oliver Coste halted the contest just 50 seconds into the round after determining that Aurelio was unable to continue.

With the victory, Bumina-ang improved his professional MMA record to 9–2 and handed Aurelio the first loss of his career.

Shortly after the fight, Bumina-ang took to social media to reflect on the journey behind the win. Anchored in faith, gratitude, and humility, he credited the triumph to the God he serves, months of hard training, the unwavering support of those who believe in him, and trust in the process laid out by his team under the leadership of head coach Mark Sangiao.

“By God’s grace, we made it! No excuses, no shortcuts—just showing up every day. I’m grateful beyond words to my coaches, headed by Coach Mark Sangiao, who push me to be better, and to my teammates who stood with me through every training. To my family, friends, and everyone who never stopped believing in me, thank you for the support! A solid welcome fight for the year! Excited for what’s next,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
