Tabuk City, Kalinga – This year’s Kalinga delegation to the 2026 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet came back stronger, surpassing the province’s performance from last year, with one young athlete delivering five gold medals in swimming.

It can be recalled that Kalinga ranked at the bottom in the 2025 CARAA Meet, finishing with 73 total medals – 4 gold, 25 silver, and 44 bronze. However, this year, the province showed significant progress and proved they did not come just to compete, having already hauled 22 gold, 22 silver, and 46 bronze medals as of 6:00 p.m. on February 26.

Among the major medal contributors is Rogie Vuestra Columna, a pupil of Macutay Elementary School in Rizal. He won gold medals in the 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter freestyle, and 100-meter freestyle events. He also competed in the team events – the 4x50-meter medley relay and 4x50-meter freestyle relay – where his team secured gold medals. Additionally, he also grabbed one silver in the competition.

Aside from Columna, another pupil from Tanudan, Calleigh Duqueyne Paga of Anggacan Elementary School, contributed three gold medals after winning the 100-meter dash, triple jump, and long jump events.

Governor James Edduba earlier commended the delegation for their outstanding performance, noting that they quickly surpassed last year’s gold medal tally by winning eight gold medals in the early days of the competition.
