‘Insure your animals and get P1k – P50K compensation if they die’ – ABRA LGU

Abra, Philippines – The Provincial Government of Abra announced on Monday, July 26, 2021, that a Livestock Insurance Program is being offered by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to farmers in Abra.


The insurance program aims at providing financial protection for livestock and poultry animals to include cows, carabaos, horses, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks.


When insured, farmers shall receive from PCIC an amount of P1,000 to P 50,000 for every farm animal that died due to African Swine Fever or those that died because of accidents such as drowning or those struck by lightning.


However, the provincial government said that those to be registered for the insurance program will be limited only to ten farm animals.

How to avail of the animal insurance?

Farmers who want to avail of the program should be registered to the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture.


Abra Today reported last month that PCIC already distributed a total amount of P836,716 to 217 farmers in 10 municipalities in the province whose farms and livestock were registered to the program.


Of these amount, P156,391 was received by 46 farmers in Bangued, P57,920 for three La Paz farmers, P51,416 for 13 Lacub farmers, P61,020 for 14 Langiden farmers, P9,654 for a farmer in Malibcong, P5, 874 for two Manabo farmers, P13,185 for four Peñarrubia farmers, P454, 885 for 132 farmers in Pidigan, P20,000 for a farmer in Pilar and P6,371 was granted to a farmer from Tayum.


PCIC is an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture with principal mandate to grant insurance protection to farmers against losses brought about by natural calamities, plant diseases and pest infestations of their palay and corn crops as well as other crops.
