Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 6.168-kilometer paved farm-to-market road is expected to be completed on April 23 next year, benefiting 479 households in Tabuk City and Tanudan after the provincial government was granted said road improvement fund.

On Thursday, July 21, the No Objection for the Award of Contract (NOL) of the said road was given to the province through Provincial Governor James S. Edduba and Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Domingo A. Bakilan by the Department of Agriculture - Philippine Rural Development Project North Luzon.

Benefiting barangays include Barangay Calaccad in the city and Barangays Dupligan and Lay-asan in Tanudan.

The excavation and embankment for the improvement of the P138,622,219.80 million-worth Banneng Darulog – Bawac FMR already started last month.

Said project awarded during the PRDP North Luzon Cluster 2nd Quarter Assessment and Ceremonial Awarding held in Savannah Resort, Angeles, Pampanga is under the Second Additional Financing (AF2) of the DA-PRDP.

In an earlier statement, Engr. Bakilan said the FMR will be 5 meters wide except for Banneng - Gumbowoy which followed the previous four-meter DA standard while its thickness will be 8 inches.

With the project, the coffee, banana, and rice production in said areas– the main source of livelihood- is expected to increase.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the FMR project being implemented by DA-PRDP and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga will reduce post-harvest losses of farmer recipients.

The travel time of beneficiaries marketing their products in the province’s capital will also be reduced.
