TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Kalinga recorded a 36.36% drop in index crimes in the third quarter of 2026, with only 14 cases reported from July to September compared with 22 cases during the same period last year.

Data from the Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO), presented during the Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting on Sept. 30, showed that the decline was largely driven by the absence of physical injury cases and significant reductions in robbery and rape.

Physical injury cases dropped by 100%, from five incidents in the third quarter of 2025 to none this year.

Robbery cases fell by 83.3%, from six to one, while rape cases declined by 66.6%, from nine to three.

However, the police data also showed increases in some crimes.

The province recorded two murder cases, one homicide, three theft cases, two motorcycle carnapping cases and two motor vehicle carnapping cases during the third quarter. These were higher than the figures recorded during the same period last year.

Of the 14 index crimes recorded this year, nine occurred in Tabuk City, four in Rizal and one in Tinglayan.

Five municipalities—Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pasil, Pinukpuk and Tanudan—recorded zero index crimes during the quarter.

KPPO said the relatively low number of reported index crimes indicates that Kalinga remains peaceful, while stressing the need to sustain and strengthen peace and order initiatives to keep the province safe for residents and businesses.
