Baguio City, Philippines – Baguio City police arrested a man who posed as a police officer to extort money from a jeep driver.

The suspect boarded a modernized jeep driven by Ronald Dela Vega, 48, at the intersection of Trancoville and Sanitary Camp. The driver was then approached by the suspect who asked for money.

Dela Vega, at first, ignored the suspect but the latter introduced himself as a cop and presented an ID of retired Senior Police Officer 2, Leo Emilio Crispin Jr., a resident of Burgos, La Union.

To avoid dispute, the driver handed over P100 to the suspect, narrated Abanao Police Station chief Police Major Lee Alvin Alinao in his interview with Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation – MPBC.

Dela Vega then reported the incident to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of Baguio City Police Office which took action immediately, leading to the arrest of the suspect identified as Jerry Fines Farnacio, 42, a native of Naguilian, La Union but is currently residing in the city.

Farnacio will be detained at Baguio City Jail Male Dorm of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Aside from robbery with intimidation and estafa, he may also face "usurpation of a person in authority."

Meantime, the suspect denied the accusation saying, the money was given willingly by the driver in payment for his service as a jeep barker.

“Hindi ko naman ginawa yun… ID ng barkada ko yun, ibibigay ko sa kanya dahil nung nag-inuman kami, nahulog niya, di ko pa naibigay dahil umuwi sa Burgos eh wala pa naman, di pa umaakyat ng Baguio,” he said.
