Bontoc, Mountain Province – The mother of the two-hour-old baby who was found abandoned in Bontoc on Thursday, June 25, has come forward and coordinated with the local government unit.

The infant, believed to have been only about two hours old when he was discovered, was found by passersby on the evening of June 25, 2026, in Pawek, Sitio Khefa, Barangay Samoki. He was immediately rescued and placed under the care and protection of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

In an update released on June 27, the Municipality of Bontoc announced that the baby's mother had already coordinated with the MSWDO.

As the municipal government continues to uphold the rights and welfare of both the mother and the child, it appealed to the public to refrain from sharing unverified information or engaging in speculation surrounding the case. The LGU emphasized the importance of protecting the privacy of those involved while allowing authorities to properly address the situation.

"In line with the protection of her privacy and the welfare of both the mother and the child, we respectfully ask everyone to refrain from sharing or speculating about personal information related to the case. Let us continue to uphold compassion, understanding, and respect during this time," the LGU said.

The Bontoc LGU also expressed its gratitude to the public for responding to its earlier appeal for information that could help identify the baby's parents. According to the municipality, the cooperation and concern shown by the community played a significant role in the progress of the case.

"The Local Government Unit extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who shared the previous public appeal, offered information, and showed concern for the well-being of the newborn. Your cooperation greatly contributed to this development," the LGU added.
