SAGADA, Mountain Province — The search for 17-year-old Sofia Isabela Magalgalit Oria continues, with rescuers, authorities, local guides, and volunteers scouring the mountains, thick vegetation, and waterways of Sagada in the hope of bringing her home safely.

Sofia, a resident of Barangay Demang, Sagada, was last seen at around 7 p.m. on August 8, 2026, and was reported missing at around 1 a.m. the following day, August 9, according to reports.

Since then, various government agencies, barangay officials, local guides, community organizations, and volunteers have joined the search for the missing teenager. On Tuesday, August 11, search teams were deployed to designated areas following an operational briefing at the Incident Command Post in Barangay Dagdag.

Searchers checked possible locations and coordinated with the command post as they moved through their assigned areas, reporting developments from the field. The operation involved personnel from the Sagada Municipal Police Station, Mountain Province police mobile force units, 1403RRIBN and 14RCDG reservists, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), municipal and provincial disaster response teams, barangay officials, local guides, community organizations, and volunteers.

Search continues despite difficult terrain

The search has been challenging, with teams checking steep and heavily vegetated areas and waterways that have become swollen following recent rains.

Despite the difficult terrain and weather conditions, searchers continue to carefully examine areas that could provide clues to Sofia's whereabouts.

As of August 11, however, there had been no reported discovery that could tell Sofia's family where she is or what may have happened to her.

Family appeals for help

While authorities and volunteers continue the ground search, Sofia's family and colleagues are appealing to the public to help provide any information that could lead to her whereabouts.

Her family continues to hope and pray that Sofia will be found safe and brought home.
