Bontoc, Mt. Province – The Provincial Government of Mt. Province reported that they are in need of more healthcare workers to be deployed in their four hospitals in the province.

During an onsite assessment and monitoring of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development – Cordillera Administrative Region Health Facility Development and Enhancement Unit (HFDEU) at the Bontoc General Hospital, it was revealed that their hospitals lack manpower.

Last month, the provincial government posted job vacancies to employ 34 nurses and 10 medical technologists to work at the Bontoc General Hospital, Barlig District Hospital, Besao District Hospital, and Paracelis District Hospital. However, the number of applicants was not enough to fill up the needed positions.

Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. stated that currently, health care workers in the province are still overwhelmed with challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, prompting the provincial government to increase hospital manpower.

“Agtultuloy ti panangsapol ti Mountain Province ti nayun a healthcare workers nga agtrabaho kadagiti ospital sadiay,” Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation reported on Tuesday, December 8, 2021.

Meanwhile, health officials in the Cordillera disclosed that Mt. Province is not the only province to encounter such problem of the lack of health care workers. Last September, the Benguet General Hospital was also looking for physician applicants for the eight vacancies in the province’s biggest hospital.

Governor Melchor Diclas disclosed that the problem came about when their doctors did not renew their contract to attend trainings required for medical practitioners to continue practicing their profession. The said situation resulted in the vacancy of positions.
