Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Provincial Government of Kalinga, headed by Governor James Edduba, in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Lower Kalinga District Engineering Office (LKDEO), formally broke ground for the construction of the P148,487,242.19 Kalinga Sports Complex Phase 1 on March 10 at the CARAA Grounds in Bulanao, marking the start of a major infrastructure project in the province.

The project is an initiative of Gov. Edduba and former Congressman Jesse Mangaoang, and is now being supported by incumbent Congresswoman Caroline Agyao.

According to LKDEO District Engineer Ruby Uyam, the facility aims to strengthen sports development in the province and provide a modern venue for athletic training, competitions, and large-scale community and provincial events.

The construction is expected to be completed on March 18, 2028. Once finished, the complex will feature a modern multi-purpose facility with an oval track, grandstand, sports courts, swimming pools, an open gymnasium, and supporting facilities such as a water system, powerhouse, a possible commercial building, and other essential infrastructure components.

“For Phase 1 of the project, this will be implemented by the DPWH through the contractor TJMT Construction. The scope of work includes the construction of the playing field and the oval track—which will be rubberized—as well as the PCCP surrounding the oval. Courts for ball games will also be installed on the right side of the oval,” she said.

Uyam also expressed optimism that Phase 2, with a proposed budget of P300 million, will begin soon.

“…paspasangpeten tayo manen diay Phase 2 with the initiative of our leaders… sapay kuma ket mai-workout dagitoy leaders tayo tapnu malpas tayo daytoy nga complex,” she said.

With construction now underway, and with the continued commitment of the provincial government and national line agencies, the sports complex is expected to become a symbol of progress in Kalinga, providing a venue for sports development, wellness, and community unity.
