PH Navy formally launches investigation on Ifugao pilot death; initial result points to heat stroke

Kiangan, Ifugao – As Aldwayne Dulnuan’s family holds wake for him in Kiangan, Ifugao, the Philippine Navy has launched a formal investigation on his passing, saying that the probe is being done ‘thoroughly, transparently, and impartially.’

Dulnuan, a licensed private pilot who dreams to become an officer of the Philippine Navy, was having his training in San Antonio, Zambales for the Philippine Navy's Naval Officer Candidate Course (NOCC) when his family received the news of his passing on July 22, 2026.

As they grieve his untimely death, the family, relatives, and other communities in Cordillera seek justice, called on authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation to determine the true cause of his death.

Through the People’s Television Network (PTV), Philippine Navy Spokesperson, Capt. Marissa Martinez informed they have officially launched a formal probe on Dulnuan’s case.

Recounting the incidents that transpired prior to the young officer candidate’s passing, Martinez said Dulnuan experienced dizziness and severe chills before collapsing, prompting the Philippine Navy medical personnel to administer first aid at the NSLG Medical Dispensary where initial medical assessment considered cardiac arrhythmia, heat exhaustion, and electrolyte imbalance.

For further medical care, Dulnuan was said to have been ferried to the San Marcelino District Hospital where the attending physician recommended admission to the Intensive Care Unit with a working diagnosis of heat stroke. Subsequently, Dulnuan was transferred to the Ulticare Medical Center Inc. for intensive care where he continued to receive treatment for the same working diagnosis.

Unfortunately, at 12:45 p.m. on July 22, Dulnuan passed away due to ‘severe infection affecting the central nervous system with a compromised respiratory system.’

Martinez expressed that all available evidence is now being gathered and reviewed to provide answers over the circumstances surrounding Dulnuan’s passing.

“The Education and Training Command extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Officer Candidate Dulnuan. Representatives of the Command have personally reached out to his family and continue to provide the necessary support and assistance during this difficult time,” Martinez conveyed.
