Suspect in Bagumbayan shooting that killed farmer in Tabuk City arrested

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — A 30-year-old farmer is now under police custody after allegedly shooting and killing another farmer following a drinking session in Barangay Bagumbayan, Tabuk City, Kalinga early Tuesday, August 25, 2026.


The suspect, identified as alias “Romy,” 30, single, a farmer and resident of Sitio Banagan Upper, Barangay Bagumbayan, Tabuk City, is facing charges for murder and illegal possession of firearms, according to the Tabuk City Police Station.


The victim was identified as alias “John,” 31, married, also a farmer and a resident of the same area.


Drinking session turns deadly


Based on the initial police investigation, the suspect and the victim were reportedly drinking together before an argument broke out between them.


The confrontation allegedly escalated when the suspect shot the victim using an M16 rifle, according to police.


The shooting occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on August 25 in Barangay Bagumbayan.

Responding personnel from the Tabuk City Police Station immediately proceeded to the area after receiving a report of the shooting.


Upon arrival, police found the victim lying at the scene with gunshot wounds to his head and right arm.


Several 5.56mm cartridge cases were also recovered from the crime scene.


Hot pursuit leads to arrest


Following the shooting, police launched a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of the suspect.


The suspect is now under the custody of the Tabuk City Police Station as authorities continue their investigation and prepare the appropriate charges against him.


The incident remains under investigation, including the circumstances surrounding the argument that allegedly led to the fatal shooting.
