Tabuk City, Kalinga – Incumbent Tabuk City Vice Mayor, Bernard Glenn Dao-as aims to continue the fight against graft and corruption with the filing of his Certificate of Candidacy this October 5 for the mayoral race.

Dao-as is a known critic of Mayor Darwin Estranero, filing several graft and corruption charges against the local executive, accusing him of blatant corruption and alleged procurement of overpriced lot and medical equipment.

Three of the most controversial procurement of Tabuk City LGU include the alleged overpriced foliar fertilizer amounting to about 9 million pesos, the procurement of 1.8-hectare lot in Laya which amounts to 46 million pesos, and the famous thermal scanner with a market price of 300-400 pesos but bought at 12,000 pesos a piece.

In a phone interview, Dao-as relayed that he didn’t actually plan to run for mayor in the coming 2022 elections. However, he said he was prompted by the current situation of Tabuk and that he wanted to continue the fight against graft and corruption, which he already started in his term as the vice mayor.

“Awan met talaga balak ko kuma a lumaban para mayor ngem gapu garud ta haan met a nasayaat daytoy mangmangyari nga ar-aramiden daytoy agdama a nakatugaw tatta ket kailangan a nga lumaban nak tapnu ti kasta ket makorektar dagita madi a maar-aramid ta panagkitak ket kasla a kakaasi dagiti tattao ditoy Siyudad tayo a Tabuk,” he said.

With this, through a representative, Dao-as filed his COC before the Commission on Elections in Tabuk for the May 2022 elections, saying that he didn’t want any fuss and that he wants his filing to be simple.

When asked what he wanted to tell the constituents regarding the elections, he reminds them to choose the political candidate who has the heart to serve the people of Tabuk.

“Iti maibagak iti kakailyan a ket nu dumanon tu a iti tiyempo iti panagpipili ket pilyen yu kuma a diay kandidato nga ammu yu a mangisakit kadakayo, diay talaga nga adda puso na nga ag-serbi iti daytoy siyudad tayo a Tabuk,” he said.

Dao-as served as the Punong Barangay of Appas for two terms before he ran and won as the city vice mayor in the 2019 elections.

As of this writing, there are already three individuals who filed their COC for the mayoralty position in 2022.
