Tanglag, Lubuagan gets new P.3M footpath for easier mobility of villagers

Updated: Jun 6, 2022

Lubuagan, Kalinga – With its completion, the newly concreted Sukiap-Liglig footpath with railings and riprap in Barangay Tanglag, Lubuagan was turned over to the community on May 25, 2022.

Said sub-project is a 160 linear meter concrete foot path with railings and 42 cubic meter grouted riprap, which was funded with P363,925.99 by the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program and P127,652.50 in-kind counterpart from the community in Tanglag.

Now that the project was completed, Jeanette Sayya-an, the Area Coordinator of KALAHI-CIDSS in Lubuagan informed that the footpath was turned over to the Barangay Local Government Unit Tanglag and the Tanglag Fisherfolks and Farmers Irrigators Association for its maintenance.

How the project was chosen

Sayya-an recounted that the community volunteers in Tanglag have identified problems that need immediate interventions in their area during a participatory situational analysis conducted in their barangay.

After the identified issues have been presented during a caravan in the community, the people unanimously agreed to prioritize the proposed construction of the Sukiap-Liglig footpath along the Tanglag river for funding by the KALAHI CIDSS National Community Driven and Development Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Faster access and delivery of services

With the completion of the project, Sayya-an said that it is now safer to walk and pass at the Sukiap-Liglig footpath especially for children who go to school as it is no longer slippery after it was concreted.

She also added that the railings as well provide extra protection to the people since they have something to hold onto to prevent them from falling off the river.

Likewise, Sayya-an conveyed it is easier, safer, and faster now to bring services to the community.

“It is now easier, safer and faster to access and delivery social services, medical services, and agricultural services in the area,” she said.
