Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Kalinga Provincial Hospital reported that they have attended to more than 1,000 road accident cases from January to July this year – ten times higher than the cases for the same period last year.

In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, Margaritte Calizar, KPH Statistician, said that the KPH has received and attended to 1,313 road accident cases from January to July 2025 – this is far higher than the 137 incidents for the same period in 2024.

In fact, the number is even higher compared to the 1,113 whole VTA cases the hospital documented in 2024.

The KPH data showed 175 cases were recorded in January; 183, February; 198, March; 214, April; 209, May; 208, June; and 126 for July.

Of the 1,313 cases, 12 succumbed to the injuries they sustained from the crash. Of the 12, 1 was documented in January; 2 in February; 2, May; 6, June; and 1 in July.

The KPH emphasized that the number of cases is the only one referred to the hospital, and that the number does not cover the VTA victims who were rushed to private hospitals in the province.

With the increasing number of incidents, the KPH headed by OIC – Chief of Hospital, Dr. Rey Aranca, reminds the public about road safety such as wearing of helmets when driving motorcycles and avoid driving when intoxicated to prevent accident injuries and casualties.
