Lagawe, Ifugao – Cash assistance totaling P9,320,000 has been distributed to more than a thousand qualified tricycle drivers in the province of Ifugao as part of the government’s efforts to ease the impact of the fuel crisis on the transport sector.

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)–Cordillera, a total of 1,864 drivers from various municipalities in the province each received P5,000 through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

The aid is expected to help cover the daily operational expenses of drivers who continue to experience reduced earnings due to the crisis.

The payout in Ifugao, conducted on Thursday, April 16, was part of the region-wide implementation of the AICS program.

Similar payouts are being carried out simultaneously in other provinces in the Cordillera region.

In its April 15 report, the DSWD–CAR said there are a total of 7,342 validated beneficiaries across 58 municipalities in the region. These include 2,900 in Abra, 370 in Apayao, 1,003 in Benguet, 1,085 in Mountain Province, 120 in Kalinga, and 1,864 in Ifugao.

During a recent meeting in Kalinga attended by Guru Press Cordillera, SWAD Team Leader Lorna C. Lumioan said the list of beneficiaries is validated by the respective local government units, and that recipients are registered and active members of their respective Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA).

Aid distribution for tricycle drivers in cities across the region has already been completed.
