TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Kalinga Gov. James S. Edduba has called for stronger mental health support and more compassionate communities, saying people should feel safe seeking help without fear of judgment.

In a message delivered by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Priel Balnao during the Mental Health Awareness Community Run on October 25, Edduba urged residents to make mental health awareness a continuing advocacy in homes, schools, workplaces and communities.

“Let us build communities where asking for help is a sign of courage, where listening comes without judgment, and where every person feels valued and supported,” Edduba said.

The community run, held in front of the Kalinga Children’s Ward in Bulanao, Tabuk City, gathered 270 iKalinga runners, including members of the Kalinga Runners Club, Lubuagan Runners Club, Mangali Runners Club and Tabuk City Milers, among others.

Edduba stressed that provincial progress should not be measured by infrastructure alone but also by how well the government cares for its people and ensures that no one is left behind.

“Through our collective efforts, we can make mental health awareness a continuing advocacy in our homes, schools, workplaces, and communities,” he said.

The governor also reaffirmed the Provincial Government of Kalinga’s commitment to supporting programs that promote mental health awareness, improve access to support services and encourage open, compassionate conversations about mental well-being.

The activity highlighted the importance of sustained community efforts to promote understanding, encourage people to seek help when needed, and support those experiencing mental health challenges.
