Tabuk City, Kalinga – Stressing that the soon-to-be-built facility is more than just a venue for competition, Vice Governor Dave Q. Odiem emphasized that the Kalinga Sports Complex represents the province’s commitment to nurturing young athletes, strengthening families, and creating opportunities for future generations.

Odiem made the statement during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project held at the CARAA Grounds in Bulanao, Tabuk City, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

In his message during the activity, Odiem said the complex will serve as a place where young iKalinga athletes can further hone their skills and compete with pride. According to him, investing in sports also means investing in values such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance among the youth.

“Sports have been a powerful force that brings people together. They teach values such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—the same values that extend far beyond the playing field. With this sports complex, we are creating a space where our youth can discover their talents, train, and compete with pride,” Odiem stated.

The vice governor also stressed that the facility is intended to host not only future sporting events such as the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet but also serve as a venue for gatherings and cultural activities that strengthen social ties among communities in the province.

“This facility will also serve as a venue for community gatherings, cultural events, and other activities that enrich our province. It is a symbol of progress, unity, and our hope for a better future. This structure will rise not merely as a construction of concrete and steel, but as a lasting symbol of hope, opportunity, and progress for generations to come,” he added.

With a total funding of ₱148,487,242.19, the initial phase of the Kalinga Sports Center Multi-Purpose Facilities (Sports Complex) involves the construction of a playing field, a rubberized oval track, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and badminton courts, as well as a water system, a powerhouse, and the partial completion of the grandstand.

As mentioned by stakeholders during the groundbreaking ceremony attended by Guru Press Cordillera, the project is expected to be completed by March 2028.
