Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 19-year-old college student drowned while trying to rescue his cousin and friend at the Chico River in Calanan Thursday afternoon, March 30.
The victim, Franz Dumaguing, went with his friends and cousins at said river to celebrate their friend’s birthday around 1:00 p.m of said day, Tabuk City police investigation disclosed.
The group had a drinking spree, as claimed by the victim’s girlfriend.
The fun moment, however, was interrupted around 4:30 p.m. when Dumaguing noticed his cousin and friend struggling in the water.
Together with his two other male buddies, the victim swam towards his cousin and friend to save them from drowning.
The victim’s companions and kin were able to get to the river bank but he didn’t.
Responding authorities searched for Dumaguing. Unfortunately, the victim was already lifeless when they found him.
