Residents of Pinukpuk, Kalinga know Vice Mayor Shirlynne B. Dasayon-Alunday as a public servant who leads with dedication and compassion. But on May 28, at the Taga Gymnasium, she revealed another side of herself — one defined by determination, competitiveness, and surprising strength.

What began as a friendly arm-wrestling exhibition quickly turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the First Gimpong Festival as the vice mayor stepped up to the table and took on challengers before a cheering crowd.

Her first test came against Ann Mabalot Flores of Barangay Mapaco. To the delight of spectators, Dasayon-Alunday displayed impressive power and technique to secure the victory, drawing loud applause from supporters gathered around the venue.

Rather than stopping after one win, the vice mayor accepted a second challenge, this time against a resident of Barangay Dugpa. Once again, she emerged victorious, proving that her first win was no fluke and energizing the crowd even further.

With two straight victories under her belt, anticipation grew for her third match. Facing her was Kagawad Joliet Lappao of Barangay Dugpa, who would ultimately end the vice mayor's winning streak. Despite a determined effort from Dasayon-Alunday, Lappao prevailed in a hard-fought contest, bringing the vice mayor's impressive run to a close.

Though she fell short in her third match, Dasayon-Alunday's performance became one of the highlights of the exhibition event. More than showcasing physical strength, her willingness to join the competition demonstrated her connection with the community and her readiness to participate alongside residents in the festival's activities.

The arm-wrestling exhibition added excitement and entertainment to the celebration, bringing leaders and residents together in a display of friendly competition and sportsmanship.

For many spectators, the vice mayor's two-match winning streak served as a reminder that leadership is not only about guiding a community but also about being willing to step into the arena, embrace challenges, and inspire others through action.

As the festival continued, the event reinforced the values of unity, participation, and camaraderie that the Gimpong Festival seeks to promote among the people of Pinukpuk.
