22-year-old driver hits 52-year-old vendor dead in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – A 52-year-old vendor died after sustaining fatal head injuries when he was struck by a car driven by a 22-year-old man in the early hours of Thursday, August 6, in Barangay Irisan, Baguio City.

Based on the initial report of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), the victim, a resident of Baguio City, was walking along the roadside in Purok 19, Irisan, at around 1:30 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old resident of San Carlos Heights, Irisan.

Police said the impact left the victim with severe head injuries. He was declared dead as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The 22-year-old driver is currently under police custody as investigators continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. He is expected to face charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide.

As of this writing, the BCPO has yet to release its full investigation report. The identities of both the victim and the driver have not been disclosed pending the ongoing investigation.

The incident adds to the growing list of fatal pedestrian-related road crashes in Baguio City.

On January 16, 2026, a 63-year-old woman was killed while four others were injured after an electric shuttle bus reportedly lost control and struck pedestrians along Scout Hill Road in Camp John Hay. Earlier, on November 12, 2025, a 45-year-old woman from Loakan Proper also died after being hit by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old student driver along Loakan Access Road.

Authorities continue to remind motorists to strictly observe speed limits, remain alert behind the wheel, and exercise extra caution in areas with pedestrian traffic.

They likewise urge pedestrians to use designated crossing areas whenever available and stay visible to motorists, particularly during nighttime hours.
