Bangued, Abra - More than two hundred college students in Abra received over P1.8 million from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) earlier this August.

The educational aid, amounting to P1,890,000, was made possible through the Tulong Dunong program of the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (CHED-UniFAST), which aims to provide essential financial support to Filipino students pursuing tertiary education, with the initiative and facilitation of the office of Undersecretary Adrian Carlos Bersamin and the provincial government of Abra, under the leadership of Governor Eustaquio Bersamin.

According to the province’s Information Office, there were a total of 252 beneficiaries of said program who received P7,500 each during the distribution ceremony held on August 4, 2025, at the provincial capitol in Bangued.

The cash assistance was distributed through Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and cheques.

Of the total beneficiaries, 177 are from the Abra Valley Colleges, while 75 are from the Data Center College of the Philippines in said town.

Abra Vice-Governor Anne Bersamin and CHED-CAR UniFAST officials, Atty. Ryan Estevez IV and Bernadette Pal-ec led the distribution, reminding the Abreño students to use the given money for its intended purpose and to continue working hard to achieve their goals.

The Abra PIO added that the given assistance was in line with the province’s scholarship program, which has already benefited 1,650 students since its implementation.

“Dinullit da Governor Eustaquio Bersamin ken Vice Governor Anne Bersamin ti natibker a suportada para ti edukasyon ken inladawanda ti scholarship kas “poonan para ti masakbayan dagiti agtutubo” ("investment in our youth’s future"), Abra PIO further wrote.
