BAGGAO, Cagayan — A 19-year-old woman reportedly jumped from Abusag Bridge in Zone 6, Barangay San Jose, Baggao, Cagayan, following an alleged dispute with her live-in partner on Saturday afternoon, August 22, 2026.

According to the Baggao Municipal Police Station, the incident happened at around 4:20 p.m., the same incident earlier reported after the woman was found in the water beneath the bridge and rescued alive.

Baggao Chief of Police Lt. Col. Manuel Viloria Jr. said the woman was reportedly distressed over problems with her live-in partner and had allegedly decided to end her life by jumping from the bridge.

Police said responders attempted to negotiate with her before she eventually jumped from the bridge into the river.

Fortunately, rescuers were already positioned in the area and immediately moved to save her after she fell into the water.

The woman was pulled from the water alive and brought to the Baggao District Hospital in Barangay Tungel for medical attention.

According to police, she was already in stable condition and was awaiting the decision of her parents regarding the next steps. She is reportedly a resident of Calayan, Cagayan.

The incident attracted a crowd of onlookers, prompting police to cordon off the area while rescue operations were underway.

The incident was initially reported online as a rescue involving a 19-year-old woman found struggling in the water beneath Abusag Bridge at around 4:20 p.m. At the time, the circumstances that led to her being in the water had not yet been independently verified.

The subsequent police account identified an alleged dispute with the woman’s live-in partner as the reported reason behind the incident.

Police reminded the public that serious personal problems should not be dealt with through suicide attempts or self-harm. They encouraged individuals experiencing overwhelming emotional distress or personal problems to seek help from trusted people, authorities, or mental health professionals.

The successful rescue also highlighted the importance of the quick response of rescuers and the immediate coordination of authorities in preventing a possible tragedy.
