28-yr-old man dies after found unconscious underwater at resort in Tuba, Benguet

TUBA, Benguet – A 28-year-old man died after he was found unresponsive underwater in a seven-foot-deep swimming pool at a resort in Asin, Nangalisan, Tuba, Benguet, on Monday, September 21.

The victim was pulled from the pool by his companions and rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to Tuba Municipal Police Station chief Police Major Orville Wap, as reported by DZWT News and Information, the victim was a single man and a resident of Purok 12, Irisan, Baguio City. He was at the resort with several companions when the incident occurred.

Police withheld his identity to protect the privacy of his family.

Based on the initial police investigation, a 27-year-old companion, also from Purok 12, Irisan, was swimming when he felt something touch his foot.

He then discovered the victim submerged underwater.

The companion and the victim’s other companions immediately pulled him from the pool and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to revive him. However, the victim remained unresponsive.

A 22-year-old farmer from Sitio Pacac, Tadiangan, Tuba, also helped transport the victim to BGHMC for medical attention.

The attending physician later declared the victim dead on arrival. The cause of death was recorded as acute respiratory failure secondary to pulmonary congestion due to drowning.

The victim’s remains were subsequently brought to his residence in Irisan, Baguio City, according to the latest report from Tuba police.

Police continue to investigate the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the drowning, including what the victim was doing before he was found underwater.

As of this writing, the resort owner or management had yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
