CORDON, Isabela — Three farmers were arrested after they were allegedly caught illegally cutting and processing timber in Purok 6, Barangay Dallao, Cordon, Isabela at around 5 p.m. on September 30, 2026.

Arrested were aliases “Lito,” 62; “Jom,” 63; and “Mel,” 62, all married farmers and residents of Cordon.

According to the initial investigation, personnel of the Cordon Municipal Police Station were conducting monitoring in the area when they allegedly spotted the three suspects sawing pieces of wood.

The police approached the suspects and identified themselves as law enforcement officers. When asked to present the necessary documents and permits for cutting and processing trees, the suspects allegedly failed to produce any.

Police subsequently arrested the three and informed them of their alleged violations and constitutional rights.

Authorities confiscated four pieces of Gmelina flitches, one round log estimated at 110 board feet and valued at around P7,000, and one Firo chainsaw estimated to be worth P5,000.

The suspects, along with the confiscated chainsaw and forest products, were brought to the Cordon MPS for proper disposition.

Authorities also coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in San Isidro for the inventory and scaling of the seized sawn lumber.

Police said documents are being prepared for the filing of appropriate charges before the Office of the Prosecutor for alleged violations of Presidential Decree No. 705, or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines, and Republic Act No. 9175, or the Philippine Chainsaw Act of 2002.

Isabela Police Provincial Office Director PCOL Manuel B. Bringas said the police will continue operations against activities that violate environmental laws.

“Hindi natin palalampasin ang mga gawaing sumisira sa ating kagubatan at likas na yaman. Patuloy ang ating pakikipag-ugnayan sa DENR at iba pang concerned agencies upang matiyak na ang mga lumalabag sa batas pangkalikasan ay mananagot sa ilalim ng umiiral na batas,” Bringas said.

The police said the operation forms part of continuing efforts to enforce environmental laws and protect the province’s forest resources.
