Tuguegarao City, Cagayan―Due to the escalating cases of COVID-19 local and community transmission, Governor Manuel Mamba awaits for the approval of Regional Inter Agency Task Force on the move to subject Tuguegarao City to a 30-day Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) through Executive Order No. 32.

As reported by Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the Executive Order No. 32 imposes MECQ guidelines on Tuguegarao City for one month, stating that the ongoing increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in city where not less than 10 new cases have been recorded in the past five (5) days is alarming, thus needing immediate control measures.

According to the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) the level of possible increase in cases is also very high, especially that 61% of the total number of barangays in the city have cases of local and community transmission.

Said EO No. 32 seeks to stop the increase of COVID-19 cases in the city immediately to ensure that the health of the people and even the economy is protected.

In this regard, Gov. Mamba subjected the city to a 30-day MECQ based on the Section 02 of Executive Order No. 112 released by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte himself on April 30, 2020.

It states that Provincial Governors are empowered to subject, extend or revoke the state of the Enhanced Community Quarantine of component cities and municipalities but the approval of the RIATF is required.

Once the RIATF approves it, the corresponding measures and protocols under MECQ will be implemented immediately.

The Provincial Chief also instructed all local governments, national agencies, government owned and controlled corporations, state colleges and universities and financial institutions to give full support to the City Government of Tuguegarao to ensure that MECQ is strictly enforced.

There are currently 89 active cases of COVID-19 Positive in Tuguegarao City out of a total of 581 confirmed cases, while six (6) have died from the deadly virus.
