Tabuk City, Kalinga – Governor James Edduba described the historic visit of Archbishop Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, as a reaffirmation of the enduring bond between the Catholic Church and the Filipino people—a relationship rooted in peace, justice, unity, and service to humanity.

Edduba made the statement during the welcome program hosted by the Provincial Government of Kalinga at the Kalinga Sports Center on Monday, June 1, in honor of the Apostolic Nuncio’s arrival in the province.

Archbishop Brown visited Kalinga to preside over the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Rev. Fr. Sean Mejia as the third Apostolic Vicar of Tabuk, held on June 2 at St. William’s Cathedral.

In his message, Edduba emphasized that the Nuncio’s presence in Kalinga was both a blessing and a historic occasion for the province and its Catholic faithful.

Brown’s visit to Kalinga from June 1 to 3 marked his first trip to the province since becoming the Holy See’s ambassador to the Philippines in 2020. With this, Edduba conveyed the province’s gratitude and pride in welcoming the Pope’s representative.

“Your presence among us is both a blessing and a historic occasion. This gathering reflects our gratitude and pride in receiving the Pope’s representative. This visit affirms our unity and spiritual heritage as a people,” Edduba told Brown.

The governor said the visit serves as a reminder of the long-standing partnership between the Catholic Church and the Filipino people, noting the Church’s significant role in shaping families, guiding the youth, and strengthening communities.

“The Catholic Church has long been a steadfast partner in guiding our families, inspiring our youth, and strengthening our communities. Here in Kalinga, where indigenous traditions harmonize with Catholic devotion, the Church continues to be a pillar of hope, reconciliation, and solidarity. His Excellency’s presence reminds us of the bond between the Holy See and the Filipino people—a bond rooted in peace, justice, and service to humanity,” Edduba added.

He further highlighted how faith and culture continue to coexist in Kalinga, helping foster unity and resilience among its people.

The governor concluded by expressing hope that the visit would pave the way for stronger collaboration between the Church and local government, particularly in advancing programs that promote peace-building, unity, and community development.

“May this occasion strengthen our partnership with the Church as we build communities that are faithful, resilient, and united in God’s mission. Welcome to Kalinga, Your Excellency, and thank you for gracing us with your presence,” he concluded.
