Baguio City, Philippines – A 37-year-old vendor was arrested by police authorities after he was caught stealing betel nut, locally known as “buwa,” from a stall in Baguio City last week.

The incident took place on April 9, 2026, at Block 4, Kayang-Hilltop, Baguio City.

According to police investigation, as cited by local media outlets, a police officer who was roaming around the area spotted the man while he was cutting the nylon rope securing a closed stall.

Moments later, the suspect forcibly entered the establishment and took two bags of betel nut from inside.

However, he was immediately apprehended by authorities as he exited the establishment.

Police confiscated the stolen betel nut and the knife allegedly used in the break-in.

The suspect, whose identity was withheld by police but was said to be a resident of Rosario, La Union, was brought to the police station for proper disposition.

Police are now preparing the necessary documents for the filing of charges against him, as the stall owner has already been informed of the incident.
