Tabuk City, Kalinga – More than P200,000 worth of prizes were awarded to the winners and participants of the Kalinga Provincial Treasury Office’s “Art for Tax Awareness: Provincial Mural Painting Competition,” held on April 22–23 at the Kalinga Sports Complex in Bulanao.

The event is one of the initiatives of the Provincial Treasury Office, headed by Provincial Treasurer Ma. Theresa G. Basitao, aimed at promoting tax awareness and community development among the public. The competition advanced this cause through the creativity of eight participating teams from across the province. Each team was composed of one visual artist and one high school student, along with their respective coaches.

Over the two-day competition, the teams showcased their understanding of the importance of taxation through vibrant and evocative murals, providing an engaging visual experience for individuals passing through the Kalinga Sports Complex, also known as the CARAA grounds.

The event concluded with an awarding ceremony at the Capitol Grounds, where the Municipality of Rizal emerged as the champion. Rizal’s entry stood out for transforming complex government processes into a meaningful cycle of growth while highlighting the shared responsibility of taxation among citizens.

The winning piece was created by Carl Justine Callangan and Bernadette Esteban, with their coach, Henry James Echalar.

Placing second was the team from Tabuk City, represented by Kristiah Lumioan and Samuel Ladrido II, under the guidance of coach Paul Francies Quinez. Meanwhile, the Balbalan team, represented by Neil Landan Baluga and Levi Mae Atalia with coach Grace Ande, secured third place.

The first-place team received P40,000; the second-place team, P35,000; and the third-place team, P30,000. All winners were also awarded certificates of recognition and trophies.

The remaining participating teams each received P20,000 and certificates.
