Launched in September, the competition that aimed at fostering awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value was opened to all Philippine residents aged 18 and above.

The entry of Aaron Palabyab titled, “The Call of the Cordilleras” did not only meet the criteria for judging but also wowed the panel of judges, including the audience with his creative content, therefore, advancing to the finalists and eventually winning the P200,000 cash prize.

According to Palabyab, some of his most memorable travel experiences in the country in the previous years are those in the magical region of Cordillera, so he decided to join the search.

“May special place in my heart po talaga ang Cordillera for many travels na personal and for work for the past 11 years, and since bata pa ako pumupunta ng Baguio. Kaya po marami talaga akong footage na nailagay sa video,” the filmmaker relayed in an interview.

He took to social media to express his gratitude to his friends and partners who made the trips possible for him to travel with his lenses that he is now sharing with the public.

“This was the most impressive tourism event I've attended, with an amazing program, performances, and eloquent speeches. Which is all to say, the people here appreciate and produce so much artistry of their own, so I'm very humbled to have struck a chord with them,” captioned Palabyab in his post.

More than the ‘amazing’ cash prize, the traveller shared that the highlight of the awarding night, for him, was when the facilitators played his video in full and getting to watch it with the live audience in the city.

“It warms my heart that they connected with my experience as a visitor here. For that--I can't wait to continue exploring the amazing, endlessly fascinating Cordilleras,” he continued.

As to his prize, Palabyab said that he will save it for more travel and content, and for him to be able to bring his family and friends on his travels.

Meanwhile, the Regional Director of DOT-Cordillera Jovi Ganongan congratulated Palabyab for winning the event and for sharing his experiences with people in the region.

“Such an amazing and sincere account of a story that is truly wonderful! Your video gave me "goosebumps". It will surely make anyone want to find "themselves" in the Cordillera!! You are welcome to come, visit, and find yourself over and over again. Congratulations!” she posted.
